The Forward House
With the holiday season upon us, the well-kept secret is out !
You need to tour the Bankers Hill Area to see the fabulously decorated homes and businesses celebrating the holiday season .
Some of the ‘MUST SEE’ locations include the Prado in Balboa Park (6th & Laurel), Mr. A’s – (5th & Laurel), and The Forward House (1st & Ivy)
The Forward House (pictured) has one of the biggest light displays in San Diego. Think Griswald’s house (Christmas Vacation with Chevy Chase.) The building got its ‘moniker’ when John Forward Sr, (who later became the Mayor of San Diego) had this house built for him and his 9 children in 1905.
John Olbrich bought it in 1998 for his business - American Security Mortgage.
He had this dilapidated mansion restored and decided to decorate that season.
Every season since, it comes alive with an extensive lighting display and adorned with lots of festive decorations !!
Santa’s sleigh and 9 reindeer (including Rudolph) are on the roof of this mansion.
Santa stops by for his annual visit with candy canes for kids of all ages on Friday, December 14, 2012 –5:30 -8:30 pm
Drive by any time between 5:00 – 10:00 pm starting Thanksgiving thru New Year’s Eve to view this wonderful holiday display. Located just 5 blocks west of Balboa Park. UPDATE: LOTS MORE LIGHTS THIS YEAR !!
