I was wondering who at there has fixed rope light. I know it is possible, and I know the basics, but I have never had to repair any before. This summer I have to replace several pieces for the upcoming season.

Kent,

Fixing ropelight is farily simple if you can see the cutlines (little scissors printed on the ropelight). I prefer to purchase the accessories from some place little Action Lighting but many people will use small nails and shrink tube to do it. The most important things to know are that you can only cut rope light at the cutlines and be sure to seal up the joints well to attempt to keep moisture away from the wire. As many people would tell you, if I can do it, anyone can!

unfortunately they do not have the little scissors. I have heard that every 18" is a cut line, so I will be laying it out and marking it. Then I plan to go back and inspect it to see if I can see something different in those areas as opposed to others. I did plan to use actual repair parts from action lighting.

I also planned to during the repair make it two long ropes. Currently they are I believe 11 sections, each being 18' in length.

I have heard about how easy it is, but I have never had any trouble with rope lights until I was putting it all away last season.

Let the fun begin.

There is a how-to which might help in your situation located on PlanetChristmas. Hope that helps. I have never had to cut rope light that wasn't marked.

All rope light is able to be cut to smaller lengths. incandescent you can cut much shorter at about 18", where as LED is about 3-6' in lengths.

The problem I had is that it is not marked at the cut points like most rope lights are. I just had to spend a bit of time examining it, and I was able to find what were the cut marks on the inside of the rope.
