They are several ways to build controller stands. Some can be bought while others like to make them (DIY). I have an article on controller stands here. This is what I use in my display.

You can't really see it from the photos but each of the 4 controllers are attached to a thin piece of plywood that slides into the grooves in the corner of the box.
